A. The emulsion is produced by melting the waxes, polyethylene, and oleic acid together. This mixture is brought to a temperature of 240/250F and the KOH is then added slowly in a hot saturated solution.
It is recommended that distilled water or demineralized water containing no carbonates be used to dissolve the KOH. The resulting mixture is cooked for at least 15 minutes. During this period the temperature can be allowed to drop back to 225/230F. At the end of this time most of the foam has subsided and a clear, slightly viscous mixture results. The morpholine is then added and cooked at 225/230F for five minutes more.
This mixture is then raised to a temperature of 230F and poured into water 205F with rapid agitation.
B. Cut the leveling resin in ammonia solution in the usual manner.
After solution is complete, cool to room temperature and add the tributoxyethyl phosphate with constant stirring. The cloud that forms in the solution at this stage is cleared by adding more NH4OH. |
