Swifts Fluid Colloid #2260 is generally used in a 12% solids solution. The solution is obtained by adding 100 pounds of #2260 to 300 pounds of warm water. (This concentration may be adjusted for desired results).
In this operation, the coating is generally applied by reverse roller-coater. The application is made just before the tiles or panels are prime painted with a water latex paint. The diluted #2260 is applied approximately 6.5 grams wet, per square foot. The water latex paint generally has the same solids content as the "Fluid Colloid #2260" sizing solution. This helps to equalize the moisture on both sides.
By coating the back side of the acoustical tile or wall board, this film of protein helps to eliminate warpage after the board or tile passes through the painting and drying stages. The Drying Tunnel is generally maintained at 80F., and is about 80 feet in length. |
