A vivid red color is produced on copper during 20 sec of immersion in molten potassium nitrate at 1200 to 1300F. After treating, quenching in water, and drying, the surfaces can be buffed to brighten them.
Red with an orange tint can be obtained chemically on copper-rich alloys by immersion in a solution containing 8 oz/gal of sodium chlorate and 16 oz/gal of copper sulfate and heated to about 180F. rinsing in hot water improves the wear resistance of the film. |
