Determination of "Vensil" Requirement |

"VenSil" is consumed in the reduction of both the ferric ammonium complex and the silver present in the bleach fix solution.
The amount of "VenSil" required is calculated as follows: 1) Reduction of Ferric Complex: 7.0-8.5 g of "VenSil" per liter is normally required to reduce the ferric complex. This is based on a concentration of iron equivalent to 10.2 g per liter of bleach fix. If the solution has not turned to a clear bluish-green after the addition of 8.5 g of "VenSil," continue adding "VenSil" until the bluish-green end point is reached.
2) Silver Reduction: The amount of "VenSil" required to reduce and recover the silver is calculated from the following formula: (Troy oz Ag/liter of bleach fix x 454)/8 = grams of "VenSil" per liter of bleach fix.
(8 is equivalent to recover ratio or the number of Troy oz of silver recovered per pound of "VenSil".) The silver may be determined by a suitable instrumental or chemical procedure.
