Heat all ingredients together except ammonium hydroxide and perfume until all are dissolved and mixture is homogeneous. Stir gently while heating. Cool to 40-45C and adjust pH with ammonium hydroxide to 9.3 if it is lower. Add perfume and continue stirring until thoroughly dispersed. Package.
No.2 (Lotion) Ammonium Thioglycolate (no amines): Hi-test solution should be 7.5-8%; solution for average hair 7-7.5%; for easy-to-wave hair (bleached and dyed), 5.5 percent. The pH should be 9..3-9.4.
The ammonium thioglycolate concentrate is diluted with distilled or de-ionized water, and fresh 28% Aqua Ammonia is used to raise the pH.
PerryS "Emulsifier X-390" may be added for a stable opacifier as it contains wetting agents.
No.3 Monoethanolamine Thio plus Aqua Ammonia: Same percentages of thio as for No.2, but the pH should be 9.2.
